Bad Weather Pro Emergency School closure
So far the winter weather has been kind! However, if snow is forecast over the next few weeks may I remind you of the procedures if it is necessary to close the school due to bad weather. Please log on to the Norfolk County Council website below or listen to local radio stations such as KL.FM (96.7) or Radio Norfolk.
If the weather is bad please:
- Listen to your local radio stations (BBC Radio Norfolk, KLFM) where updated lists of schools closing will be read at regular intervals.
- Check Norfolk County Council’s website (www.schoolclosures.norfolk.gov.uk) and select ‘Emergency Schools Closures’ from the list on the right for a regularly updated list of closed schools.
- We will endeavor to notify parents via our parent text message service (please ensure your contact telephone numbers are up to date). Norfolk County Council now offers the option for you to sign up to received alerts by text message or email whenever school is closed. To sign up for alerts or find out more, visit: www.norfolk.gov.uk/disruptions
Guidelines we follow:
- Should it be necessary to close the school during the day the school will telephone parents.
- Parents are asked not to phone school if they think the school may be closing as this prevents us phoning them.
- If we are unable to contact parents we will keep the child at school until normal time.
- If there are serious weather problems- floods, storms or snow, Mrs Eden will inform Norfolk County Council and local radio stations of the decision.
Please remember that as all our staff live some distance from the school there may be no staff on site if the school is closed due to snow. As you will appreciate, we do need several members of staff on site before we can safely open the school.
New Year Party
We shall be holding our traditional New Year party for the children this Friday afternoon (8th Jan). We shall have party games, dancing and party food. We should be grateful for any contributions of party food- please send in any contributions on Friday morning. The children may wear party clothes to school for the day or bring them into school to change into after lunch. There will be normal school lunches on this day.
There will be no sharing assembly this week. The first one will be on Friday 15th January. After assembly we will be holding our termly Parents forum. We will report back on issues discussed at the last meeting, and look into areas in which the school can help your child learning at home.
The PTA have asked that if anyone has any unwanted (unopened/long best before date) presents from Christmas that they would like to dispose of, would you consider donating them to the PTA, we can always use them. If you would like to do this please speak to Dawn Nash/Lucy Lockwood or any other member of the PTA in the playground. Also can you please note the weekly cake raffle will start on Friday 26th February.
After School Clubs
This half term we will be offering the following after school clubs: Clubs will commence next week, Week Beginning 11th January and will run for 5 weeks up to half term. We aim to offer a variety of fun after school clubs for the children. All Clubs take place from 3.20 to 4.20pm. To book places at any club, please complete the attached form and return it to school by Friday 8th January.
A very special Flitcham event!
Every three years a child is fortunate to be presented with a bible from Her Majesty the Queen. Traditionally the Queens Bible awarded to a child who has shown good progress in Religious Education. This year Katy Leet has been chosen to receive the Bible from Her Majesty the Queen on Sunday 10th January for her Nativity writing but also for her knowledge and understanding, questioning and evaluation of her learning during R.E. lessons.
